Establish Judicial Appointment Standards
Preamble: This bill aims to set a process for the appointment of Judicial nominees.
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This bill shall be referred to as the "Judicial Appointment Standards Act".
(2) This bill was authored by Nanicholls MP.
(3) This bill shall be enacted immediately.
2 - Reasons
(1) This bill will ensure judicial nominees are well qualified.
(2) This bill will ensure a vigorous nomination process is upheld.
3. Judicial Qualifications
(a) Any person nominated for a position as a justice on the court shall hold the law profession from the University.
(b) Any person nominated for a position as a justice on the court shall have more than 4 days of playtime.
(c) None of these qualifications may be achieved after a person is nominated or confirmed.
4. Judicial Hearings
(a) The Prime Minister shall inform Parliament of a judicial nomination at least 24 hours before the start of a judicial hearing.
(b) Parliament at large will conduct a hearing with the judicial nominee through a medium of their choice.
(i) Each Member of Parliament will be allotted no less than 10 questions for the judicial nominee.
(ii) Members of Parliament may yield their questions to another member or may decline to ask any questions.
(c) After the completion of a hearing, parliament must enter a 24 hour debate period on the nomination.
(d) After the debate period, the speaker must take a vote for the nomination.
Enactment: This Act comes into force immediately upon passage.
