Type: Amendment to an Act
A
BILL
TO
AMEND THE PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE ACT
Preamble: Many new amendments and changes have made bills longer and less simple to edit before it is posted to a vote. This risks allowing many bills to be passed without sufficient time to debate or to motion to amend. 2 days is not enough time to do all of this and could let a bad quality bill go to vote without enough consideration. Knowing these problems, this bill proposes to fix that by extending the time of parliamentary debate on each bill from 2 days to 4 days.
1. Short Title and Enactment
(a) This bill shall be referred to as the "Four Day Debates Act."
(b) This amendment comes into force immediately upon passage.
2. Extending Debate
(a) Amends the Parliamentary Procedure Act by replacing Section 7(a) ""(cii) If no point of order to extend the debate is raised after 48 hours, the speaker will commence voting on the bill"" with ""(cii) If no point of order to extend the debate is raised after 96 hours, the speaker will commence voting on the bill""
