Author: Lysander Lyon, MP
Sponsor: N/A
Type: Act of Parliament
Preamble: This legislation addresses what happens to legislation, nominations, and any other Parliamentary action around and after an election.
1. Short Title
(a) This bill shall be referred to as the "Continuity Act".
(b) This bill was authored by Lysander Lyon.
2. Terms and Continuity
(a) Terms end exactly on their two month mark, unless otherwise called earlier by the Prime Minister.
(b) Any legislation in voting by the day of dissolution may continue to be voted on through the rest of the day. Even if the vote should last longer, it will be closed at the end of the day - if dissolution occurs on the 21st of a month, at the end of the day on the 21st the voting on all bills will close and the results will be as they are. This counts for nomination votes or motion votes as well.
(c) Any legislation or nomination not actively being voted on, by the day of dissolution (it cannot be due to be introduced on the day, must have been done so the day before), will be dismissed. The legislation, nomination, motion, or other action will not be valid in the next Parliament without being reintroduced.
(d) All Parliamentary committees are dissolved with the end of each term.
(e) The Prime Minister and the Cabinet appointed by the prior Parliament shall remain in office through the election following the end of Parliament, until a new Prime Minister is chosen by the next Parliament.
Enactment: This Act comes into force immediately upon passage.
