TO
AMEND THE NEW CRIMINAL CODE ACT

Preamble: Azaleans have died for our country and died for our flag. It is due time that we make sure citizens respect our flag and national identity symbols. This Act will amend the New Criminal Code Act to add the crime of national symbol desecration to Section 8: Crimes Against Public Order.

1. Protecting National Symbols
(a) Amends the New Criminal Code Act by inserting the following new clause under Section 8:
""(d) Desecration of National Symbols
(i) Offense Type: Misdemeanor
(ii) Penalty: 10 minutes jail time; $500 fine
(iii) A person commits an offense if the person:
(1) intentionally burns, defaces or otherwise physically desecrates an official flag of the nation or a local district in a public setting; or
(2) intentionally displays or positions an official flag upside down or beneath another banner on the same staff physically or in an image without legislative authorization; or
(3) intentionally disrupts, alters or plays distorted versions of the official national anthem defined in the National Anthem Act; or
(4) intentionally harms or displays derogatory representations of the national animal defined in the National Animal Act.""
