Amend the Freedom of Information Act​

Preamble: The current limits to FOI requests negatively impacts Journalists looking to hold to Government accountable.

1. Short Title and Enactment

(a) This bill shall be referred to as the “Unchaining Journalism Act”.​

(b) This bill was authored by Aero Nox.​

(c) This amendment comes into force immediately upon passage.​

2. Amendments

(a) Section 7.a of the Freedom of Information Act shall be amended as follows:​

(a) In order to prevent frivolous Freedom of Information requests from slowing down the Government, individuals may submit no more than three free requests per Responding Office per calendar month. They may pay $1,000500 per request beyond this limit.to submit up to an additional two, for five total, and after that they may not submit any additional requests until the next month begins.​

(b) Section 7.c of the Freedom of Information Act shall be amended as follows:​

(c) These limits shall apply to requests already filed in December, although the fines shall not if an individual is already over the three requests. Journalists are granted an additional three free requests per Responding Office per calendar month.​
